Xero isn’t only a product. And it’s not just accounting software. Advisors and small business owners alike will discover the most success when they embrace the mindset that Xero is, in fact, a platform.

This was one of the main messages from the Xero Roadshows across Australia this month, and it has the power to change the way you do business.

The thing that makes Xero unique is our beautiful, easy-to-use small business platform that seamlessly connects businesses and unlocks opportunities for business owners and advisors. This platform provides our 2 million plus subscribers with connections to a thriving ecosystem of over 800 third-party apps and more than 200 banks and financial service providers.

As always, each Roadshow proved to be the ultimate display of our platform in action, with our app ecosystem community given the opportunity to connect with our Xero advisors in real life. In fact, this year

Driven by the rise of smartphones and growing internet penetration, the burgeoning middle class in Asia is making more eCommerce purchases than ever. The 2016 and 2017 Google-Temasek reports projected a US$200 billion internet economy in the region by 2025. The 2018 report, however, placed that number even higher, at US$240 billion — an increase of 20%.

Asia boasts some of the most eager shoppers in the world. They’ll buy everything from household products and makeup to bags and tools online. But at the same time, many have experienced the frustration of unreliable shipping.

Even in Singapore, one of the world’s most advanced cities, last-mile fulfilment tends to challenge online retailers most. Of course, this dream isn’t without its challenges. As we start a new decade our thoughts usually turn to renewal and optimism. Instead, many small businesses are facing unprecedented challenges caused by drought, flood, bushfire and now disease. While the data used in the report precedes the very

If you’re an Australian employer, you may be aware that changes are coming to modern awards that will require added compliance. The Fair Work Commission announced its final decision last year amid media stories of employers underpaying workers. The new award requirements take effect 1 March 2020.

Many businesses will need to review employment contracts and update their HR and payroll practices in the coming weeks. If you’re an employer who uses Xero Payroll, you’ll want to ensure you’re compliant. These are just a few of the tasks that will apply to an enlarged group of 22 modern awards:

  • Annual calculations of what the employee would have been paid under the award compared with the annualised wage actually paid (with reconciliations and back pay of any shortfalls)
  • Recording start and finish times, as well as any unpaid breaks taken by each employee subject to an annualised wage arrangement (in order

By Ben Chandler, Principal, Strategy1, Tasmania

Welcome to Partner Pages: a magazine made up of stories from the Xero Partner community, for the Xero partner community and shared as part of Roadshow Australia each year.

Accountant Ben Chandler left sunny Queensland for the brisk, cool climate of Tasmania nearly ten years ago. But it wasn’t just a change of scenery that he discovered upon his arrival. Following a visit to his local Xero roadshow, Ben was introduced to the wonders of cloud-based accounting and the Xero app ecosystem, both of which entirely transformed the way he did business.

Today, Ben’s advisory-based practice has grown from strength to strength and stands as a guide for those looking to expand beyond the boundaries of compliance. Now, he’s ready to share all that he’s learned about making the leap and finding the advisory sweet spot.

Selling advisory means selling change. And, as humans,
