It's official.  The next guy to try to clean up the Knicks, and make them relevant again, is going to be Donnie Walsh.

Seth from Posting & Toasting has some notes up on the press conference that introduced Walsh as President of the Knicks.

Here is the ESPN article on the topic, including video footage of Donnie Walsh talking about Isiah Thomas' future.

The key point from Walsh: "In three years... we've got a chance to have flexibility in the cap.  But in the meantime, we've got make this present team as competitive as we can make it... we've got to resist the idea of getting longer-range contracts in order to protect three years down the road...".

Right on, Donnie.  Right on.

Living in Bloomington I'm able to listen to the ESPN Radio station out of Indy and they've been covering this Walsh stuff pretty extensively. That being said, here are a few of the highlights:

1) they think he'll either keep Isiah or hire Mark Jackson to coach the team. Walsh has a history of hiring head coaches without any experience (Isiah and Larry Bird).

2) The Jermaine O'Neal to NY rumors are getting louder as the season ends and since Walsh gave him that contract.

3) If Walsh was a 'wait it out for more cap space, better environment' kind of guy he would have done so with the Pacers after they traded Artest.

I'll be interested to see what strategy he takes.
