This post has nothing to do with Kanye!
The Commission had a Redman/Method Man video in their Old School Friday post last week. Long story short, I mentioned that Redman is from Newark, and recounted my recollection of Redman's appearance on the MTV show "Cribs". Here's a short clip of that episode that I found at You Tube:
That clip is okay, but it's cut off before it got to the really good parts. If Redman's crib is a bit... underwhelming... you should have seen the part where he finishes going through the stuff in his living room, and turns to point out his "uncle", who is passed out sleeping in a corner. Just sleeping on the carpet, yo!
He then finishes the segment by going through his kitchen, which is barren and devoid of food. His fridge opens up, and it's like straight out of the "Nuthin' But A G-Thang" video... it's just a bunch of forties (St. Ides!) chilling in the fridge.
And my favorite part: He takes the camera crew over to his door, which has a screen door. The screen has a few holes in it. Redman sticks his head through one large hole, his arm through another, and waves bye-bye to the crew as they take off (running, no doubt).
With nothing else to add, here's the two best Redman joints ever... "Tonight's Da Night":
And his verse (his first video appearance, I believe) from the classic "get amped" banger, by EPMD: "The Headbanger":
Warning: Watch that video enough and you might start punching people in the face just for living.

Five Pound Bag: Wow, that might be a record - gone less than 8 hours after I posted a link to it. Anyway, I updated the link with another copy of the same You Tube video. Try it now, hopefully it'll work!

Redman "Cribs" no longer available. :(
But the real best part is after he closes the fridge and says something like "Now it's time to go to the bank" and pulls down a shoebox from the top of the fridge that's got like 2 grand of cash in it.
Second-best "Cribs" moment ever after Ray Lewis: "These is my minks."
