I have to big up The Indian Playa for this one... I opened up my inbox, and found an e-mail from him, with the heading "Ayo, next to snap a neck be big R-O-C-K...".  The rest of the e-mail:

"Jamal Bush a.k.a Roc from Helter Skelter was formally arraigned on attempted murder in the second degree and related charges. The Brooklyn District attorney's office allege that Mr. Bush shot a known pimp and bloods gang member in the neck paralyzing him. They also allege that Mr. Bush is a pimp and this was a dispute over an alleged lady of the night. Mr. Bush categorically and unequivocally deny all charges. We eagerly look forward to trial and proving his innocence."

That's all from this website.

For those of you not familiar with Helter Skelter, here is The Fab Five's "Lefleur Leflah Eshkoska":

The Fab Five were part of the Brooklyn supergroup known as the Boot Camp Clik, which included Black Moon and Smif-N-Wessun.   The Fab Five, in fact, were two groups - Helter Skelter, and the Originoo Gunn Clappaz (OGC).  They quietly dominated the underground scene here in New York City, without really getting national props, during the mid 90's.  Their sound?  Very Brooklyn, for sure...  a rugged basement sound (the Beatminerz), combined with Jamaican influences.

Black Moon, "I Got Cha Opin (Remix)", with the great Barry White sample:

Smif N Wessun's "Bucktown":

True story: A friend of mine in high school was a wannabe DJ.  He had worked with the Boot Camp Clik in some capacity, and asked me if I wanted to do some "street work" for them.  Never one to pass up an opportunity for some extra $$, I said "sure".  Down I went to their office, which was near Union Square at the time (no chance in hell it's still there - it hasn't been there in over 12 years).

Once there, Big Dru Ha and an assistant of his by the name of Eddie Machette tell me that I am to put stickers up for the new Helter Skelter album, all around the Union Square area.  I'm handed a roll of stickers, and off I go.

So I did, plastering the light poles and stuff with these stickers of Helter Skelter.  I noticed that the stickers weren't very good quality, but whatever.  I kept a few for the crew at school, and that's it.  The next day I went in to get paid.

"Yo," Eddie Machette says to me.  "You didn't put the sticker up!""
"Yes I did!"
"Nah, man.  I checked, and couldn't find any of them."  He sounded pissed.
"Yo, your stickers have this wack glue on them.  They won't stick to sh*t!"  I calmly tried to explain.

Long story short, I didn't get paid, and within a week everyone in school was breaking on me, telling stories of how Buckshot and Dru Ha whupped my ass as they threw me out of Boot Camp Clik headquarters.  I did, however, get to keep the cool t-shirt they gave me, which I still have to this day.

Finally, bringing it back to the Indian Playa once again: he sent me an e-mail not too long ago, with the subject title of that one being "Best rhymes by a white guy ever!".  The rhymes?

From the Black Moon joint "U Da Man", the following verse by Big Dru Ha himself:

Well, it's the ill Caucasian, check the invasion
Bushwick to White Plains, the world in seven days and
Back in town with the Black Smif-N-Wessun persuasion
Wanna flex next, swing one, that's all she wrote
Get the point to the joint, now you're bendin for the soap
Like my bitch, fuck a bitch real quick, then I vanish
I always get the pussy cause I tell em that I'm Spanish
Chill, lay low, I'm throwin headcracks in celo
Niggaz losin dough so now they gots to bet a kilo
Mines for the takin, never fakin when I kick it
Girls be on my jock, they want a taste so they lick it
Rip it from the back, bust a nut in her crack
Big Dru Ha puffin lye and I'm out, black

Just a little something for those who miss the old skool Brooklyn sound a bit...

It's a shame that what is going down with Roc. Sean Prince the other half of the group is making good albums while it looks like Roc is going in a different direction.

Great site.

and yes, dru ha's 'u da man' verse was indeed a dope turn by a paler shade of mc, even though the chances of him actually penning the rhyme are a solid .01%.
