We got a nice little tip today from one of our favorite fellow bloggers, Jordi from The Serious Tip (and elsewhere).  He found this Dominican blog who did a post today on Manny Ramierez's involvement in a charity.

Manny Being Merlot? How about Manny Being Malbec? My translation (which is poor): "The Dominican baseball player has united with three members of the Boston Red Sox baseball team, to benefit cancer victims.  More than 264,000 bottles of wine have been sold in 2007, raising more than $330,000.  The wines were sold in New England and Fenway Park restaurants, starting in June 2007, for $12 a bottle."

These wines are from an organization called Charity Hop, and are called Charity Wines.  Three Red Sox players are involved with Charity Wines (run by a wine importer named Vinlozano Imports):  Tim Wakefield, Curt Schilling, and Manny.

Sales from Wakefield's wine ("CaberKnuckle") benefits an organization called "Pitching In For Kids", which has done lots of work with Jason Varitek and Tim Wakefield (a hint of irony, since Tim Wakefield doesn't do much work with Jason Varitek).

Sales from Curt Schilling's wine ("Schilling Schardonnay", the worst named of the wines) benefit "Curt's Pitch for ALS", which is, of course, Curt Schilling's charity.  It works towards helping find a cure, and supporting victims of, ALS, or Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Manny's wine is called "Manny Being Merlot", and sales benefit the CHARLEE program.   Even Red Sox can get props from us when they do something good!
If this bottle finds out you're a sportswriter, it talks your ear off...This bottle is nearly impossible to catch.
