Okay, a new feature we are trying out.  As take notes during Knicks game, I'm going to jot down the result of every pass into Curry on the blocks (or in the low post).  Simple?

Not really.  But, luckily, Curry only played minimally yesterday, making the trial run much easier.  Check the results:

The Eddy Curry Tracker:
-After Curry draws double team, he passes it out to Crawford for three.  Assist, Curry?!?
-Curry gets a pass, drives inside, jump hook goes in. 2 pts.
-Curry picks up a second foul (one on Gooden, one on Ilgaukas) in less than two minutes, so he sits.  The score is 7-5 Cavs (all 5 Knick points were Curry-involved).

-Curry (now in the third quarter, as he sat the rest of the 1st half) gets doubled after the entry pass.  He throws it across the court to the Crawford in the corner for a three-pointer.  It's good. 66-52 Knicks.
-Fred Jones to Curry, another double, out to Crawford, swing it to Richardson.. for three.  Wow.  69-52 Knicks.
-Richardson in to Curry, who takes Ilgaukas off the dribble... for 2 points.  4 points, 2 assists in 5 minutes of playing time for Curry.  74-52 Knicks.
-Curry gets it on the post, tries to go around Ilgaukas, but Ilgaukas knocks the dribble goes out of bounds.  Knicks ball still.
-Zach Randolph inside to Curry... Curry goes up, gets fouled. Hits 1/2 FTs.  79-63.
-Richardson inside again to Curry, who backs down Anderson... for the two.  Nice job.  81-65.
-Crawford to Curry... who gets doubled from behind, ball is stolen.  First negative play.

And that's it.  Soon after that the Knicks blew the Cavs away, opening a 20+ lead in the 4th quarter.  I didn't track any of the possessions after that.

Considering Curry only played 13 minutes total, he was very efficient.  Better than I was expecting.  I was figuring about 60-65% efficiency would be likely, with the goal to capture how many Curry misses lead to offensive rebounds for Lee and Randolph (a stat that's not easy to track, but that if it was tracked, I would bet Curry would be near the top in the league, and Michael Redd near the bottom).  Instead we got something better... Curry's totals:

9 possession that went inside to Curry.  Eight results (one resulted in the ball being knocked out of bounds, which remained Knick ball.  I suppose you could argue that's a "negative" result, since it wastes shot clock time, but I'm gonna call it a "no result").

Of those 8 results, one was negative (the turnover on the steal).   The other 7 results were positive.

Curry was doubled four times, and one of them resulted in a steal.  Three resulted in passes, two of which were direct, credited assists on three-pointers.  One was an indirect assist on a three pointers (via Crawford, to Q-Rich).

Of course the Knicks never hit the three like they did yesterday, but still.  A good three is a good three, and yesterday, for once, the Knicks' outside shooters were hitting those good threes.

The four times he wasn't doubled?  3 FGs, one foul drawn (1/2 FTAs).

Totals for those 9 possessions:  Curry had 7 points (3-3 FG, 1-2 FT), 2 assists (resulting in 9 Knick points), 1 turnover.

A good result in 7 of 8 possessions (88% efficiency), and 16 Knick points.

Very interesting stuff. I hope you do this often.

Yahoo only has him down for a +2, but I'm still trying to figure out how they get those numbers

I feel like the Curry tracker has 'Juan Pierre O'Meter' type potential. Maybe you should talk to Erin about a sweet design.

Thanks BARF. Brian rigged up a nice graphic for the Curry tracker, one that incorporated Cobra and Rickhouse's suggestions. It's a tad bit snarky, but that's cool!

I'll break it out in tomorrow's recap post of tonight's game.
