Some quick notes on the Knicks 94-86 victory over the Nets on Saturday night:

Zach Randolph is an All-Star:
Zach Randolph has been the lone bright spot thus far this year.  Not only has he been putting up double-doubles regularly, of the 20/10 variation, but even his defense and passing is improving.  He had 5 assists for the second straight game.  Those five assists included a nifty alley-oop to Curry in the first (from the three-point arc), and a nice pass ahead to Richardson for a breakaway layup after picking off (!) a pass.  Randolph also had at least one other nice entry pass to Curry that resulted in free throws for Curry.

Spike Lee is back at his seats in MSG.  Apparently he was shooting a film overseas, but now he's back and issued the following statement on the team: "The ship not be sunk".  So true... there is still time to turn this around.  Yet also kind of super optimistic.

Jared Jeffries did a decent job of guarding Vince Carter, particularly in the second quarter.  Though Carter ended up with okay numbers - 24 points on 8-16 shooting, with 7 assists, Jeffries contained him from taking over.

The big stretch was a 5-0 run by Fred Jones early in the third, who stretch a 40-38 Knicks halftime lead to 47-40.  From that point on the Knicks maintained a two-possession lead for the rest of the game, barely dipping below 4 points, and maxing out at 10 points.

Zach Randolph's range is getting scary.  From the media accounts, I was expecting another Curry, but he's more of a Rasheed Wallace type with his jumpers rainbowing in from 20 feet away.  In fact, he's the best perimeter shooter the Knicks have.  Someone really needs to talk to Richardson (and Marbury) about that, because those guys should have the range, and hit the shots, that Randolph is hitting regularly in games.

Jared Jeffries is too weak to be a good rebounder (The Kevin Durant Rule).  Despite being 6'11 (or taller than Zach and David Lee), he is just about 220 lbs, and gets pushed around down under the basket when he goes in for rebounds.

David Lee barely played in the first three quarters (maybe 5 minutes total), but he starts the 4th quarter (Knicks are leading 70-62 thanks to a crazy Crawford three pointer at the buzzer to end the third) in place of Eddy Curry. Curry ends up sitting the first 7 minutes of the fourth, despite having 20 points and being very effective through the first three quarters.   I have to say, I can't knock the strategy by Isiah Thomas here... he wants to keep Curry fresh for the end of the game, and wants Lee's energy in the fourth.

Zach Randolph scored 20 points, and lead the team in rebounds (13) and assists (5).  He also had 2 steals, or half the Knicks' total (4).  He also had a blocked shot, and lead the Knicks in FTs (6) and FTAs (8).  He's doing it all right now.
