Alonzo Mourning's career-ending injury made me sad.  I was never a fan of Alonzo Mourning - he was one of those 90's Knicks' biggest rivals (along with Tim Hardaway, Reggie Miller, and Michael Jordan).  But I did respect his game, and I was glad that he was one of those athletes who tried to do good.  Even if he did leave the Nets and Toronto holding the bag a bit!

Well, Slam Online had a beautiful post about his speech immediately after winning the championship with the Heat in 2006.  If there was one compelling reason to root for that team, even if you hate Pat Riley and the Heat... it was Alonzo Mourning.

Slam's post had the entirety of his "speech" (in response to the only question he was asked), but if you want to see it on video, here you go (fond via True Hoop):

I've been a fan of Zo since his rookie season. He hasn't had the easiest career but the way he has handled it and has come back from all that adversity just shows grat character.

Alonzo also has done some radio interviews on the Paul and Young Ron Show from Miami. Click here to go to haveahectic.com and listen to Alonzo Mourning on the radio
