I watched the Pats-Colts game, as did everyone in the bar, except for those really annoying Seahawks fans (! I had no idea they existed in NYC) who cheered every play in what I thought was their meaningless game against the Browns.  I'll admit it turned out to be a competitive game in the second half, and was even more exciting than the
Pats-Colts.  And that loss obviously could have dire consequences for the Hawks.

Still, it's really annoying when everyone is watching the other 10 TVs with the Pats-Colts game on to hear one table going nuts for the Seahawks game for the most mundane things:

"Go... Go... GO... GO... down that punt!".

Seriously, stop drinking some much coffee.

The Colts looked as good as I thought they would yesterday, until their defense wore down late in the 4th quarter, at the worst time.  The Pats were sloppy, making lots of dumb mistakes; the Colts played like the more polished team for most of the game.  Colts fans (DJM) can take some solace in the fact that the Colts' defense (especially the pass defense) is as good as they have looked.  Pats fans can take some solace in the fact that they won despite playing poorly, and that it is highly unlikely that the Pats will get as many penalties called against them in the playoffs in Foxboro.  Therefore the Colts are going to have to put up more points than 20 next time.

I might still bet on the Colts to cover again next time, especially if the spread is larger than 4.5.

The Pats unstoppable offense was slightly hampered yesterday, but I have to say this:  Who let one of the top two or three quarterbacks in the league team up with the best wide receiver in the league (Randy Moss)?  That's right - every other team in the league.  Nice work, guys.

Speaking of one of those teams whose management failed them - the Jets.  Not that anyone cares about this Jets team, but I'm still finding new ways to get mad at the Jets management.  Here are two reasons that I'm mad this week:
It's the fingers that crack me up the most...1. GM Tennebaum:  Failed to heed Chad Pennington's advice and acquire Randy Moss when he was available for a fourth-round pick.  After stealing Thomas Jones from the Bears for less than that, why not go all the way and get Randy Moss, too?  Oh yeah... because he's not a "team player".   The Jets are managed and coached by the NFL equivalent of Scott Skiles and John Paxson.  And already players have started to quit on the coach.  Anywhere else and a second-year coach/GM tandem whose team is 1-8 and staring at a bottom five season would have serious job security issues right now.  How are these guys getting a free pass?
2.  Coach Mangini:  The 3-4 defense isn't working with DeWayne Robertson at NT.  The Redskins became the latest team to rush all over the Jets.  They had almost 300 yards rushing on the Jets!  Robertson is just too small to plug the gaps on the line in a 3-4, and teams can rush up the middle on the Jets with no problem.  So who is to blame here?  Mangini for insisting on implementing a 3-4 even though he lacks the proper personnel, or Tennebaum for not getting the right pieces?  Doesn't matter - they are both in this together.  Stopping the rush is fundamental football.

So is rushing the ball on the offensive side.  I like Kellen Clemens' performance, but once again the Jets had no rushing game.  Ridiculous.  The O-line has improved in pass coverage a bit (though Clemens was sacked three times and rushed a few others... but that's not terrible for 42 pass attempts).

Things the Jets need to do to improve enough to make the playoffs next season:
-Shore up the O-line with a veteran
-Either ditch the 3-4 or revamp the personnel.
-Get a big WR to compliment Cotchery and Coles.
-Add a pass rush, either by getting a pass rushing lineman or using more corner/safety blitzes and stunts like they did last with Kerry Rhodes.

I love that photo, btw.  I'm pretty sure that if you could hear that stick figure's voice, he would be saying "EEYAAAAAAWWWWWwwwwwwwww".  Then, as he's falling through this never-ending abyss, "E=MC2" would float by, and he would pause to take a picture of it like Ozzie Smith in Springfield.  Before continue to fall forever.

Speaking of photos I've snapped recently:
OJ's jerseys sell well...Don't know if you can make this out, but it's another OJ Simpson Bills jersey.  WTF?  I've now seen two on consecutive Sundays?  Are Bills fans slowly starting to flip out?  Are there no Jim Kelly/Thurman Thomas jerseys to rock?  Is the imaginary of Bruce Smith terrorizing a quarterback not sufficient for you to feel tough enough?  I don't know, but it does seem a bit odd...

Maybe the Jets are "trying really hard" to get Dorsey with their first round pick.
