Interesting facts about Marcin:-He was drafted by the Suns in 2005, with the 57th pick. As always, the Suns traded the pick, in this case to the Orlando Magic.
Free (Agent) Darko:
-Marcin has played overseas for the past two seasons, but he has finally made it to the NBA, thanks to Darko Mlilic's signing with Memphis and Marcin's strong summer league performance. Gortat averaged 10 ppg, 6.8 rpg and 3.2 bpg during the summer. He has yet to play an NBA game.
-Marcin is Polish for "warlike".
Link To Spinks:
His father is Janusz Gortat, a famed amateur boxer who twice won bronze medals in the Olympics. In 1976 Janusz lost in the semi-finals to Gold Medal winner Leon Spinks.
-He was ranked #235 on Yahoo!'s fantasy rankings to start the season; he's now #389, thanks to 0 minutes of action.
-Like almost every other Polish player ever in the NBA, he's 7'0, 240 lbs. He's credit as being the third in the NBA, but actually 8 Polish players have been on NBA rosters.
-His favorite TV show is Jerry Springer, he loves hip hop, winter and Will Smith. He hates fast food.
-He actually wrote that he wants to be a car mechanic when he's through playing professionally.
Strong Praise:
-From the Orlando Sentinal:
"You could do a lot worse than Marcin Gortat," Magic General Manager Otis Smith said.
-Draft Express wrote that his best case scenario is "Chris Anderson", and his worst case scenario is another 7'0, 240 lb Polish center - Cezary Trybankski. 7'0, 240 lb Polish center Maciej Lampe's NBA career is rolling in its grave.
-Other 7'0, 240 lb Polish centers of no note: In the 2003 Draft the Bucks took Szymon Szewczyk. Wojciech Barycz was taken recently by the Minnesota T-Wolves, and the Bulls have 7'2 260 Dawid Przybyzewski (his first name is pronounced "Joe Kim").
Finally, the real reason I posted this, so I could use this video of Marcin Gortat attempting to dunk over 12 mascots laying on a pile on the floor:

speaking of Poland & NBA, what about this blog that I just found?
even if they are fellow Sixers fans, I honestly can't say I agree with them on anything.. but maybe someone can ;-)
I agree, these are golden. I wish I could package them up like trading cards.
I love the attempted dunk! Then the crowd going...ooooo
Interesting facts about Marcin Part II:
First Double-Double in the NBA against Washington Wizzards April 16 2008
Marcin Gortat had a career-high 12 points and 11 rebounds.
"-He actually wrote that he wants to be a car mechanic when he's through playing professionally."
No, he ACTUALLY wrote:
"After my career is over, I want to: help other big men
If I didn’t play professional sports, I’d like to: go back to school, or be a car mechanic"
