Sean Marks was born in Auckland. That's the capital of New Zealand. He is the first Kiwi to play in the NBA.He's been out of college for 10 years now. In that time he has:
-played with Toronto from 1998-2000.
-played in Poland in 2000-2001 (with an 10-day contract with the Sonics).
-played for the Miami Heat 2001-2003.
-won a championship as a member of the Spurs from 2003-2006 (much like Earl Barron has a title with the Heat).
Sean Marks has topped 20 games played in a season four times in his career, all between 2001-2006. He's never topped 25 games, though.
His career high in points is 16, in a Spurs overtime win at Toronto on Feb 8th, 2006.
Marks once had a double-double, scoring 11 points with 11 rebounds (a career-high) for the Heat on 11/20/01 versus the T-Wolves.
X Marks The (G) Spot:
He missed 22 games in 2002 due to a cervical strain. I'm going to be honest now... I was not aware that men had cervixes.
Sean Marks was once traded, along with Alvin Williams, from the Raptors to the Celtics for Danny Fortson. However Williams failed his physical, and so the trade was voided. Players of Sean Marks ilk are rarely traded; that would have been quite a proud day.
Making his Mark:
Because of Amare's knee problems, Sean Marks has broken into the Suns rotation temporarily. He had 13 points (5-7 FG) in 16 minutes of playing time in the November 6th win against the Bobcats (last week). He might even top 25 games played this season.
The New York Knicks selected Sean Marks in 1998 with the 44th pick in the NBA draft. The Knicks immediately traded his rights to the Raptors. The Knicks could use him to play point guard right now.
Shirley You Joke:
Sean Marks is essentially Paul Shirley's replacement on the Suns. I don't just means that he's a 6'10 white journeyman center whose job it is to essentially sit on the bench. I mean that he's a 6'10 white center who also has his own Suns blog:
Later on that day we tried to see
the latest James Bond film. Unfortunately, it was sold out and we were forced
into seeing the only other film showing at the time,
They let centers vote now?
He left New Zealand for the U.S. 13 years ago, too young to vote there. He became a U.S. Citizen in October 2007, which means he can finally vote in an election for the first time in his life this year.
Marks is a member of the New Zealand national basketball team, which makes him a "Tall Black".
He played in 00-01 with Poland, for Zepter Idea. He was the backup center to Joseph McNaull, seen here pictured in his role as the zany neighbor next door.
Sean Marks is the most boring player in the NBA to interview. I found a transcript of an interview with him, and this You Tube clip of another interview with him. In neither instance did he say anything at all noteworthy. Not even slightly interesting. He's the Costa Rica of Latin American food.
He does, however, have two great clips in which we find out that he actually has an adversarial
Sean Marks dunks on Yao, and Yao gets fighting mad:
And two, someone makes a very convincing argument that Sean Marks deserves a spot on the All-Star team:

When I was writing about Pat Burke back in October/September, I looked in the Suns.com player galleries, and the Sean Marks photos are somewhat ridiculous. It looks like it's from last year (it says 06-07 Suns on the top) but take a look. It's hilarious: http://www.nba.com/suns/roster/players_marks.html
Here's a breakdown of what Shawn is doing in the 12 photos:

For the game Amare was suspended for, Sean Marks was in a jersey on the sidelines, and he looked really confused. I'd watched like 20 Suns games, and I'd always seen him hanging around in a suit, and then I saw him in a game uniform, and it scared the hell out of me.
Haha. Sean Marks yeah. From what I hear he is good in practice. You see he used to stand there and Let Tim Duncan run Drill's against him and now he can let amare and shaq do that. He can shoot the ball though and is a good 10th to 15th player. Cheap and can play if needed. I see him as a Michael Doleac type player that can shoot. 16 13 at the end of the season... they should have unleashed him in the playoffs haha.

LOL the two videos are great... especially the second one, it's tough to dispute.. dude gives us up some stats to back up his thought !
