This is Von Wafer, of the Denver Nuggets:
I probably would not have a clue who he existed if not for Posting and Toasting's KTO post yesterday, in which Barnesgasm wrote:
And inspired me. So SML will take a look at some of the lesser known scrubs throughout the NBA season. Here's your Von Wafer profile:
-Von Wafer (real name: Vakeaton Quamar Wafer) is a 6'5 SG with the Nuggets.
-Dominated as a junior in high school, putting up 32 points, 10 rebound and 7 assist per game averages. He was virtually unknown up to that point.
-Senior year he averaged 26 points, 8 rebounds, 4 steals and 4 block per game.
Von Wafer was selected to be McDonald's High School All-American. In the game, he scored 29 points on 13-20 FG, and had 8 rebounds. That game featured feature NBA greats Carmelo Anthony, LeBron James and J.J. Redick (the MVP of the game, scoring 26 points).
It also featured Jason Fraser of Amityville (Long Island) representing as the closest thing to a New Yorker in the game (first time ever there was no NYCers in the game). He represented Long Island lovely, forgetting which team he was on, and dunking a ball into the wrong basket in the fourth quarter. You can watch the highlights here (Frasor appears more than LeBron in these highlights):
He played sporadically with the Lakers, and was cut after the preseason before his 2nd season. Wafer spent the start of the season playing with the oddly named Colorado 14ers in the NBA Developmental League.
He lit it up in the NBADL, getting named "Player of the Month" in January 2007. He ended up signing a 10-day deal with the Clippers. He played one minute, finding the boxscore with his line of one missed three point attempt.
This year the Nuggets signed him, and sent him to the Summer League where he once again lit it up. He finished averaging over 24 ppg, including dropping 42 points against the Knicks (in a game that the Knicks won). He hit over 56% from the field during the summer, and showed his touch from downtown.
George Karl had positive things to say about him, and signed him. He's played only one minute this season, and managed to miss a three pointer. That minute played was enough to boost his fantasy standings from his original #346 position to #322 overall. He's since dropped to #338.
If J.R. Smith ever gets traded, look for Von Wafer to assume the role of three-bomb shooter.

Von Wafer: Every day, when Von wakes up, he goes into his kid's bedroom, yells
"FUCK YOU!" and gives the finger to each of his two kids, Nilla and
Communion.

The next step for Von Wafer was Florida State University for college ball. He played there for two years, showing some signs of potential, but also getting suspended for academic reasons a couple of times.
