His name comes from his mother Brenda and his father, Melvin. Had he been a girl, he would have been Melenda. Keeping with the theme, he and his wife Deena have a daughter named Brenna, and another named Donevin. His younger brother Brandin played college basketball.
Brevin was born in Livingston, NJ. Like Earl Barron, Knight’s hometown is eager to claim to be the birthplace of an NBA player.
Here is Brevin Knight’s astrological info, courtesy of this French website that considers him a celebrity:
Map of the Heavens, Planets, Astrological Chart, Horoscope
Brevin KNIGHT,
born November 8, 1975 at 12:00 PM (unknown) in Livingston (NJ) (USA)
Sun in 15°40 Scorpio, Moon in 22°04 Capricorn
Chinese Astrology: Wood Rabbit
Numerology: Birthpath 5
Half-Man, Half-Journey:
Knight has played for 8 different
NBA franchises over his 10 year career. That makes him quite the journeyman,
or, as he is described in this Spanish interview:
“un autentico trotamundos de la liga”
That means, translated directly, that "he's an authentic globetrotter of the league".
From future star with potential to Urkel tradebait in 2 years:
He was drafted 16th overall in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavs. He’s been traded by himself for Jimmy Jackson, Anthony Johnson and Larry Robinson (2001), with Lorenzo Wright and Pau Gasol for Shareef Abdul-Rahim and Jamaal Tinsley (2001), and straight up for Jahidi White (2003).
He also occasionally lets him shoot threes every possession and play hard only when his contract is expiring:
Brevin Knight drives a Bentley Coupe. It’s not really his, though:
Last night at was at the SBCC gym watching the Clippers practice and I had a great time, and I was just wondering who do you think drives the best car? After seeing the cars yesterday, I think Brevin Knight's Bentley Coupe is WOW!Luis,
The Bentley is niiiiice, but my personal favorite is Shaun's baby blue Chrysler 300. It reminds me of a classic car from the 1960's and it showcases his off-the-wall, unique personality. After all, any NBA player (or celebrity) can ride a Bentley...
P.S. The Bentley is actually Tim Thomas', not B-Knight's. Timmy just lets him drive it sometimes. Just an FYI.
Brevin Knight Loves The Assist:
His rookie year with the Cavs he
averaged 8.2 apg; he's never averaged less than 6.1 as a starter, and is at 6.8
apg for his career. Whenever he's been a full time starter, he's averaged well over 7
apg, and about 2 spg.
Brevin Knight is currently #86 all time in assists in NBA history. Some time this week he should get assist #4000 for his career. He's going to pass TNT crew members Kenny Smith (4073) and Reggie Miller this season (4141). Amazingly enough, Kevin Garnett is #80 (with 4146), ahead of all those players. That's a testament to what a talented player he is.
Unrelated Sidenote: Stephon Marbury (6383) is #22 on the all time list. He'll break into the top 20 this year. Only one active player has more assists than him - Jason Kidd (#7 overall). Steve Nash still has some catching up to do. Also worth noting - #24 on that list is Scottie Pippen. Scottie never got enough props for how ill a player he was.
Brevin Knight and his wife Deena have set up a foundation call “The Assist by Knight” Foundation. Not the Knight Foundation (Insert Youtube of Knight Rider). Not “The Brendation”, or “Foundknight”.
If other players had foundations like Knight:
-“The Traveling Violation” by
Jamal Crawford
-“The Bank Shot” by Tim
Duncan.
-“The Pass The Ball Back To Kobe”
Foundation by everyone on the Lakers.
Brevin Knight Hates “My Name Is Earl”:
Brevin is short for an NBA player. Brevin Knight won the 1997 Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award as the nation's outstanding senior male basketball player under six feet. Nate Robinson is the only current NBA player shorter than Brevin (unless Earl Boykins is still around). Don't believe me... look at these photos:

Can you read the banner in the background?

Yeah, he has a fan club, too. I'm down with that.
The player Brevin Knight is most often compared to is Sonics guard Earl Watson. Ironically, Brevin Knight has gotten kicked out of the last two games he's played in Seattle (both with Charlotte), due to technical fouls.
Brevin Knight in Pop Culture:
Brevin has appeared on The Apprentice.
Brevin Knight received a shout out on a Jedi Mind Tricks album. Mike Fratello also got a shout out in that same album – “Serpents in Heaven, Kings in Hell”.
Receive two votes for the 1997-1998 All-Interview Team (this was an actual award once). First team members included future Hall of Famers Charles Barkley and Karl Malone, and future Detention Hall of Famer Jayson Williams.
There's nothing good on You Tube of Brevin's playing (unless you want to see him feed an alley-oop to Shawn Kemp 10 years ago), but there is a pretty famous song remix that bares his name, from India:

Yes. Marbury has more assists than Steve Nash (and should hold on to his lead through the end of the season), though Nash is rapidly catching up. Part of that has to do with Nash's injuries, part of it just is an example of how good Marbury used to be (averaging around 10 apg while scoring 20 ppg). But yes, Marbury is ahead of Nash. That impressed/surprised me, too.
Mike Lupica is amazing, you must have never read one of his books.
Nash also didn't play much his first few seasons in the league, whereas Marbury did.

Wait. Steph has more assists than Nash? Didn't they come into the league the same year?
