Before I make my picks for tomorrow's slate of NFL games I just want to take a second to mention that the World Series is far from done.

The Red Sox may hold a 2-0 lead, but momentum can turn quickly in baseball.  The thing is that the Red Sox will be play the next three games in as unfamiliar an environment as it gets.  Their defense is going to be tested in Denver... Manny Ramierez is going to have to be on target in left field, and Dave Ortiz is going to have to do some fielding at first.  Add to it that the two pitchers the Sox are throwing out in games 3 and 4 are not fastball pitchers, but control and breaking pitch dependent pitches.  It's well documented that baseballs don't break as far in the altitude of Denver.

Point being, simply:  The Rockies can must certainly win Games 3 and 4.  Don't be surprised if this series is tied 2-2 come Game 5... it seems likelier than you might think.

Of course, Josh Beckett and Schilling are pitching Games 5 and 6, so don't think I'm betting on the Rockies to win this series, either.  Just stating that the next two games are very much in their reach.  Now on to the NFL picks for tomorrow's games:

1. Cleveland -3 at St. Louis.  Not that the Browns are that great, and at some point the Rams will win a game.  The Dolphins maybe not, but the Rams won't go 0-16.  But you know what?  I think the Rams haven't covered the spread at all this year (maybe once that week I was out of the country), so bet against them.

2.  Detroit +5 at Chicago.  Just remember we were on the Detroit bandwagon back in preseason.  Of course we were also on the Rams bandwagon, but one out of two ain't too bad.

3.  Colts -7 at Carolina.  Yes, the Boston media would like you all to bow before The Mighty Pats.  Not I.   The Colts, who maybe I need to remind everyone, ARE THE DEFENDING SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS, have beaten the following quality teams who are in the playoff running:  the Titans, the surprise Texans, Tampa Bay, Denver, and even the Saints.  And now Jacksonville.

The Mighty Patriots have beaten: the Jets, Bills, Dolphins.  A combined 4 wins between the three of them, and most of those four wins came against each other.  The Mighty Pats have also beaten the Bengals, another team that would have one win if not for their victory against the Jets last week.  The Browns aren't very impressive, meaning the only decent wins the Pats have so far are against the Chargers (when they were struggling early on in the season), and the Cowboys.  Congrats for running up the score and earning props from everyone.  Let's see how good The Mighty Pats are next week when they play The Defending Champs.

Amazing.  I'm now openly rooting for that herb Peyton Manning and the Colts.  This makes me really want to give up watching the NFL.  Thank goodness for the NBA season starting this week....

4. NYG -9.5 "at" Miami.  A home game for Miami taking place in London.  The Giants aren't for real, either, but they aren't getting challenged this week.  I still want it to be known that I am on the Seahawks bandwagon in the NFC.

5.   Tenn -7.5 vs. Oak.  I think the Titans have learned not to let up after last week's near-disaster.  I would add that Oakland is better than you think.

6.  Philly -1 at Minnesota.  Philly is going to get back into the playoff picture real soon.

7.  Pitts -3.5 at Cincy.  Why is this line so low?

8.  NYJ -3 vs. Buffalo.  Sigh.  A win here propels the Jets into second place in the division.

9.  SD -9 vs. Houston.   I like the Texans, but the Chargers are pumped to play at home.  Don't dismiss that.

10.  Jacksonville +3.5 at TB.  I still think Jacksonville is going to make the playoffs.  I can't give you a good reason why.

11.  NO -2.5 at SF.

12.  Wash +16.5 at NE.  I'll take the points.

13.  GB +3 at Denver.  I don't think Mile High is as intimidating as it used to be.  Not that Favre cares, anyway.

Indy is our best bet this week.  Those things are now 6-11-1 after Indy's win last week.  We went 6-8 last week to make our overall record:  38-43-4.
