You leave the blog world for a week, and it feels like you've missed a lot.  Here are some of the going-ons around the internet:

First up, I did a little guest post over at The Commission, partaking in their regular Old Skool Friday feature.  Thanks to the guys over there for letting me be the guest DJ today...

******
Next up, check out this nice find on You Tube from Bread City - the worst Netflix decision of all time.   Also worthy, if you've never seen it before... the original Basketball Jones video from the 70's (and the origins of Tas and Skeets' website's name).
******
The Blowtorch has the story behind one of the NBA's first foreign players, Oscar Schmidt.
*******
MC Bias is at it again, torching the comments sections of some of the biggest blogs in "Sports Blog Land".  I'm fairly certain that his "Mr. Caps" voice is absolutely based on SML, and is bordering on copyright infringement, but we'll let it go.  Because we agree with Mr. Caps.
******
Here's Posting and Toasting's Knicks preview.  I'm only #45 to link to it.  No wonder P&T is crushing me in the Knick blogger rankings... I need to get 45 people to link to my Knick preview, coming out on Monday.   While we are on the topic, here is Hooplah... Nation's Net preview, and Straight Bangin' Knicks preview.

*******
Modi at Cosellout is blowing up once again - he's already gotten mad love from Deadspin and The Big Lead for this, but here's The Book Of Isiah series by Cosellout.   And, here's Modi making me aware (I had no idea) that Dave Zirin is now working for Sports Illustrated.  Hopefully he'll be allowed to operate without restrictions, though I am absolutely shocked.  They couldn't be further apart on the spectrum, but that's why it makes sense... SI's audience, especially online, is lagging.  They need to draw in bigger numbers to compete with Yahoo!, and ESPN (the top two sports sites, in that order).  I'll delve into this next week in my post "The Future of Sports Blogging", which is based on a most insightful conversation I had earlier this week.

Ty Keenan pokes some fun at the news that the Pacers' trade last year was somewhat racially motivated over at Plissken At The Buzzer.

One football related note:  Signal 2 Noise is apparently 41-35 on his picks this year, so I'm going to try to beat him.  So far, since I didn't pick last week (bye week for SML!), I am currently:

Best Bets: 5-11.  Ouch.
Solid Bets: 8-5-3.  Lots of ties.
Other Bets: 14-13-3.

Overall: 27-29-3.  Wow, I kinda suck.

This week's picks:

New strategy - only one best bet:  Titans +3 at TB.  Yes, give me the three points, please.

Every other game:
1.  Cin -3 at KC.   KC looks better, but I'm going to take the Bengals.  They reek of desperation.
2.  Hou +6.5 at Jacksonville.  Pretty solid bet, actually.  Yeah, I'm still high on the Texans.
3.  Cleve -4.5 vs. Miami.  Not a big enough spread.  People seem to really be underrating this Browns squad.
4.  Chicago -5 vs. Minn.  Sorely tempted to bet on the Vikings, but this seems like a good week for the Bears to start turning it around.
5.  Eagles -3.5 at NYJ.  Hey, I'm a Jets fan, and I think this line is too small.  The Eagles are undefeated or something after a bye week, right?  The only thing that makes me think the Jets might surprise people here is that Chad Pennington is probably fighting for his job, and that makes him dangerous.  He might throw like four TDs on Sunday.  But I wouldn't bet on it.
6. Baltimore -9.5 vs. St. Louis.  Show's over.  Everyone's given up for the year.  Rams are done.  See you next season, St. Louis.  Too bad they don't have a basketball team or something....
7.  GB -3 vs. Washington.  Don't know why the Packers are good, but they are.  And the DC team... I just don't know.  Anyway, also be weary of the first cold weather game of the year for a team.  This is DC's first cold game.
8.  Arizona -4.5 vs. Carolina.  Yeah, the Cards are looking good now.
9.  NE -5.5 at Dallas.  The line could be 11, and I would still be beating on it.  NE looks unbeatable, Dallas looks lucky, as in "damn, they're lucky they're in the NFC,  where they are a lock to make the SuperBowl".
10.  Oak +9.5 at SD.  Points?  Yes, please.
11.  Sea -6.5 at NO.  Seattle is still my sleeper pick in the NFC, okay?
12.  NYG -3.5 at Atlanta.  Yawn.  Hopefully there will be a meaningful, exciting baseball playoff game on Monday night.  Or some preseason basketball.

YOU ARE NOT MR CAPS DADDY, SML, ALTHOUGH IT IS NOT SURPRISING THAT YOU WOULD WISH TO IDENTIFY YOURSELF WITH MR CAPS. MR CAPS IS ACTUALLY THE BIZARRO LOVE CHILD OF STRONG BAD (from Homestarrunner.com) AND A ROUTINE MC BIAS ENJOYED ON AIM AS A TEENAGER. HOWEVER, IF YOU REALLY DO WISH TO IDENTIFY YOURSELF WITH MR CAPS, MR CAPS RECOMMENDS HIS STORE. OUR MR CAPS HEADBANDS WITH GLOW IN THE DARK MR CAPS LETTERING ARE ON SALE THIS WEEK.

Ha, SML, I'm glad you finally found that post. That may have been the most fun I've ever had on a post; designing a list praising nearly all the major sports blogs while making it impossible for nearly any of them to link to it, heh.

SML, I know that you said you'd delve into it next week but after ESPN how do you know which are the most popular sports sites?
