SML collaboration time:  I was asked to grab the mic over at The Blowtorch, and confess my most embarrassing sin... SML is a Vince Carter fan.  Check it out.

This is a followup to The Blowtorch's own confession that he sweated Keith Van Horn.  I think I win.

Carmelo Anthony now has a blog on Yardbarker, which is locking the NBA stars up.  Greg Oden and Mike Conley Jr. are also over there.

And so is Baron Davis.. The Big Lead found this post about the Warriors Book Club.

My favorite part is that someone posted this video clip of John Mayer (channeling Seth Cohen from "The O.C.") and Kanye West in the comments, for no real apparent reason:

Joey from Straight Bangin' found this great website: menwholooklikeoldlesbians.com.  I admit I've spend way too much time over there this week.  Although they have this weird hatred of Aerosmith - note the subtle putdowns in every Steve Tyler post.

Knicks updates:

Great post by Alan Hahn, on Nate Robinson lotion-stealing antics in the locker room.  Alan also finds time to inform us about Eddy Curry's foul troubles, Isiah Thomas foul mood (without being as judgmental and childish as the other local beat writers... I'm look at you, NY Post), and some bit of charity by Jamal Crawford.  Jamal's foundation did some work to renovate PS 58 in the Bronx, in particular it's library program.

Compare and contrast Alan's insightful and non-judgmental writing with that of John Hollinger, who is writing for the NY Sun, a long-defunct local newspaper that is now just an internet media sight.  The crap he's been writing is so bad I was about to blast off on it, but Cosellout beat me to it!  Modi properly dissects the various levels of misinformation in Hollinger's article.

In other Knicks news, Jared Jeffries is practicing hard to improve his offensive game, in particular his atrocious free throw %.

We found that link thanks to the good folks over at Knicks Defense, who are on top of everything NYK-related.  Here's their touching sendoff to Demetris Nichols, who was cut yesterday by the Knicks.   I like the kid they call D-Nice (I still prefer "Hot Nichols", a esoteric reference to one of the various nicknames the Method Man has employed over the years), and think if he hones his game, he might make it back to the NBA in a meaningful way.  But I wouldn't bet on it, either.  He was passed up by every team in the league once already, despite having one of the best pure shots I've seen in a long time.  How much of it might have to do with his attitude?  Syracuse players under Jim Boeheim have notoriously underachieved in the NBA - Derrick Coleman, Billy Owens, Sherman Douglas, John Wallace, Etan Thomas, Lawrence Moten, Hakim Warrick (who has had a decent NBA career with good potential, but remember - he was a big star at Syracuse, and only a marginal NBA player at best).  Only Carmelo Anthony has blossomed into a true superstar in the NBA, and he spent all of one season at Syracuse.  I'm not sure what to make of that.

Here's a link to a Zach Randolph interview with Hoops Hype.  It's a short interview; the most exciting part of it is how Randolph repeatedly mentions playoffs, sounding excited to be on a team with a real chance of making some noise.  That may explain why he suddenly playing well on both ends of the court, as most Portland fans are not used to hearing Randolph and "defense" in the same breath.  Got to give Z-Bo credit - 5 steals against the Celtics (and Garnett) was very impressive.

Other NBA news:  Carlos Delfino and the Raps crush the Cavs 111-78 yesterday.  I think this bodes well for my prediction that the Raptors will win more than 43 games this season, and Delfino will have a (mild) breakout year.

It's Friday, so it's Old School Friday at The Commission.  Props to today's choices, as they include Special Ed.  We have a slight fondness for old skool Special Ed.  We also have a strong fondness for Slick Rick, who was suppose to be in our old skool post earlier this week, but we dropped that story.  We'll use it soon, though.

Finally, the 2008 Olympics in China may be delayed due to air pollution.  This will not effect our country previews, which will be continuing on, though we may add a few jokes about the smog.

When Keith Van Horn and Vince Carter are involved, no one wins. Especially the Nets.

Slightly disagree with goathair, as I think Blowtorch wins in a blowout.

Also, I was in Beijing last winter. Holy shit. The air is opaque. It's basically a liquid. Shit makes Los Angeles look like Walden Pond. My lungs hurt just thinking about it.

Is it worse than Mexico City? Because someone decided to build a city about 8,000 ft above sea level, where the air is thin as hell. And in the valley, surrounded by four mountains that trap the air. Then they decided "Let's fill this city with 10 million people, and lots of pollution and smog."

Then an active volcano erupts nearby regularly, causing ashy acid rain. It's actually quite refreshing, if you don't mind the smell of sulfur.

But Shanghai is actually considered worse, so you win!
