Come... walk with me, in the rain, in the LIC.  It's a rainy Saturday morning (okay, not really morning - it's 1ish, but I don't wake before noon on weekends, so it's morning to me):
Puddles, yo. What kinda joke can I make here?Whenever it rains like this, it's always a good idea to wear some old gear.  I got my Penny's on:
The Penny Hardaways are still fly, 10 years later.Let's take a closer look at those Penny Hardaway sneakers, because it's like him being a cast-off trying to recapture the magic of Shaq-Penny again is a perfect metaphor for the magic of the Air Foamposites of 199x:
Lil PennyGrimy.  I also got the matching North Face hoodie on, so I look legit mid-90's.  Hell, all I need is the ghost-face ski mask.
Since the face been revealed game got real...All, check the ball court.  Yes it's pouring outside, but this man ain't caring.  He ain't stopping:
One man, alone, against the elements...What motivates a man to stand in the rain, practicing his jumper?  What demons haunt him?  Is it the missed jumper in the championship game in the rec league last season?  Does that memory keep him out there long after everyone else has left?
He makes it rain. No, wait... that's Cloud.Relunctantly crouched at the free throw line,
arms and knees pumping, and thumping in time.
The thunderbolt flashes, his feet are set.
Swishing and missing, he yearns for the net.

He deftly manouvers, and aims for a bank,
fuel burning fast on an empty tank.
Wreckless and wild, he works on his turns,
his prowless is prudent and secretly stealth.

As he speeds through the court the shots go down,
the fans get up, and they get out of town.
The court is empty except for one man.
Still driving and striving as fast as he can.

The sun is long gone, and the clouds are up,
and long ago somebody left with his cup.
But he's still driving and striving and making the turns,
And thinking of the cup for whom he... still... burns...
He's going to hit FTs like Ray Allen if he keeps this up...He's going the distance.

Hey, he's an urban hero.  Here's to you, Mr. Monsoon Won't Stop Me From Practicing... I salute your work ethic.

He's not totally alone at the park...
Slippery? Blame it on the rain. Cheap joke? Blame it on "SML is lame".You got a couple of kids out there, in the middle of a rainstorm, playing some handball.  Yes, they are very competitive.  With ethic like that, they'll be a star some day.  Or, if you are more cynical, you'll like Dominican Tony's take on it:
You can't stop the rain. Pearls of wisdom, from Shaq."Yo, those kids are just out here because they don't want to be at home... they don't want to see daddy beating on mommy again..."The sun sets over the skyline...

Simple. Yet powerful. The kind of work that will be analyzed by the students of the future as modern expression of the urban struggle and those who attempt to rise above.

On the real though, a very cool post and I definitely agree with Cobra.

LOL! Yes, Jordi' first sentence nailed it! I enjoyed this post, probably more than I should have.
