Basketball on the mind!

Yeah, we can't watch the Euro 2007 championships out here in the US, but I can still read up on them.  And thanks to You Tube, I can keep up with the highlights.  Like this short clip, from the end of yesterday's Serbia-Greece classic:

That crazy shot from Serbia's Milan Gurovic tied the game up at 56-56, sending it into OT.  There Greece pulled off a 68-67 win when Marko Jaric missed (what else?) a jumper that would have won the game for the Serbs.  The Greeks are now 2-0 in the tournament, and advancing to the 2nd round, where as the Serbs are 0-2 and are going to have to beat some Israeli ass to stay alive.

If you are wondering why Jaric took the shot instead of Gurovic, it's because Milan fouled out with 2:30 left in OT.   Full recap here if you want to read it.

A comment that is irrelevant with the post, but defenitely relevant with the freedom (from the law) that Darko is caving for.

After his national team lost their latest match against reigning Euro champs,
Greece, (admittedly with some referee assistance), here is what Darko said: (translation)

"I will find the referees, murder them and then fuck their daughters"

Wow, that's gold.  I want that Darko in the NBA... not the pussy from the Pistons and Magic that Larry Brown helped create.  The angry ref-destroying-mentored-by-Rasheed-Wallace Darko.
Also 0-2 in the Euro Tournament: Italy, after losses to France and Slovenia.  Sorry Ricky.  The problem: the Italian roster has Andrea Bargnani and Marco Belinelli, but no Paul McPherson!

Paul has played for most of the past three years for Basket Livorno in Italy. Paul never made it in the NBA (or college, really - he played at three school, before finishing at DePaul) despite a sick 50-inch vertical.  Don't believe me?  Check out this vicious, furious dunk on You Tube (I found this via Yardbarker):

That's not all.  This is another sick dunk by P-Mac, who steals an alley-oop from his own teammate!

Here is the Dime Magazine piece from yesterday where they catch up with Paul McPherson.  It's a good read worth your time.

Okay, back to the Euro tournament:  Leading scorers?  Dirk is dropping 29.5 ppg to top everyone.  But Tony Parker is right there, with 26.0.  Rounding out the top 5 are Pau Gasol, Andrei Kirilenko and Jiri Welsch?!?  The passing bad Czech is averaging 20 ppg, to go with an "Eddy Curry would be embarrassed" 2 rpg and 3.5 apg.  Jiri needs to hit the glass.

Kirilenko is tops in that category, averaging 12.5 rpg so far.  He's also third overall in apg, with 4.0.  He's behind Sarunas Jasikevicius (5.5 apg) and Mo Whitfield of um, the Czech Republic (by way of Philadelphia and Africa).  If he can be Czech, than P-Mac can definitely be Italian (Italian citizenship ain't that hard to get - most any Argentina can get it, so it can't be that bad).

Okay, that's my Euro update for the day.

you stole all this from my site, just admit it !!

LOL seriously, I posted Gurovic's video and also the one for Slovenia-Italia finish, which is also exciting, if anybody is interested

Italy stayed in the tournament with a victory vs Poland while Serbia is on its way back to Belgrade, damn

very nice story about Mc Pherson, didn't remember him honestly

Italy now will meet Lithuania, Turkey and Germany. I must say the formula of this cometition is pretty weird to say the least...

nice to see you are also covering Euro2007, but now time zone difference is in OUR favour !!

later my friend :-)
