First off, I direct you attention to Modi's post on his trip to Jena over the weekend for the protest/march.  It's as insightful as you'll read anywhere, and a little somber, too.  It really says a lot about the situation in America, particularly the apathy of too many of us.  Please check it out here.

On to some Knicks news... as you may have heard by now, Renaldo Balkman is expected to miss a month due to a stress reaction in his ankle.  I still have no idea what the hell a "stress reaction" is, but I have two thoughts: One, I probably have had that at one time in my ankle.  Two, that's what David Lee supposedly had last season when he suddenly disappeared from the lineup for the last two months of the season.

The Knicks medical staff, or really their PR department, is confusing.  Balkman is already wearing a walking boot, and according to reports has a small cartilage injury in his ankle (right foot). He's note guaranteed to be healthy in a month, either... he might still need surgery if things don't progress well.

In any case, Balkman's absence - he'll miss most of preseason, for sure - creates an opportunity for the Knicks to view what Wilson Chandler and Jared Jeffries can do from the backup SF position.  In the long run, if one of them, particularly Chandler, produces well enough to handle the backup spot, you might see the Knicks shop Balkman for one of the stud SFs on the trading block - Ron Artest, Andrei Kirilenko, or Shawn Marion.  On a side note, I'll get into my thoughts on those guys later, but I think that while you hear the same names as always when these guys become available... the Knicks, Bulls, Lakers... that the real teams to keep an eye on are both Miami and possibly Philly.  More on that later.

Odd note that one of the commenters on Alan Hahn's blog named "Bronxboy in MD" (See? That's how you credit a blog, ya'll) made: "Speaking (Jared) Jeffies being a butcher.... Does anyone realize Jeffries' is the one that initially injured Houston's knee in 2004?"

Well, that's pretty ironic considering Jeffries ended up with Houston's jersey number on the Knicks (#20)!

MC Bias has an interesting post up about how one of his better ideas has apparently been implemented by the staff over at the AOL Fanhouse.  It goes to show that he's a pretty savvy fellow with some good ideas.

Random You Tube Video:

Yep, the first appearance of Biggie in a video...jokes:

-The biggest laughs have to be for Puffy's rasp-generator enhanced rhymes.

-The David Chapelle looking guy that raps first.  What every happened to 3rd Eye Blind?

-The repeated cuts to that same three-second clip of Supercat doing his arms out dance... they cut back to that same three-second clip like five times during the video.  They must have filmed like one minute of footage, and just looped it.

-It's the bad boys, yo... making mad noize, yo...

-The use of bullets as a sound effect.  It was coming in dancehall at the time, but this song popularized it in hip-hop usage.

Thanks for plug, but you really bummed me out with this post! I had no idea about Balkman and I don't like those words "stress reaction" one freakin' bit. Didn't David Lee have a so-called stress reaction and then was basically done for the year.

And if Lisa Callahan had anything to do with the diagnosis I am very worried! She is the primary reason the Knicks missed the playoffs. Fucked up with Jeffries, fucked up with Lee, and fucked up with Crawford. How she wasn't sent packing along with Anucha brown Sanders is beyond my comprehension!
