Perhaps he had some help from the PR people at the Garden... I'm sure they reviewed it before releasing it on their website.  Never the less, it's Marbury reiterating his stance on his comments, while also distancing himself from Vick a bit more, so to less the likelihood of another attack from Mitch Lawrence or whoever...

Marbury's statement, in its entirety:

"It is not uncommon for my comments to be misconstrued in the media, but I feel compelled to put my recent comments in the right context.

What Michael Vick did was wrong and he has admitted his guilt. He should be punished. However, he should be given a second chance as others have received for more serious crimes.

There is no list for which animals should be killed and which shouldn't. As a spiritual being, I respect GOD's divine order. We're all created by GOD and animals are GOD's creatures as well. I love animals and none of them should be harmed. However, we don't react the same when other animals are being killed for sport or the sake of human pleasure.

Should we, as a society, stop wearing fur coats and eating meat or hold those accountable who are responsible for the demise of those animals? In order to receive forgiveness, we must all forgive in order for healing to take place.

As an athlete and celebrity, I realize we are convenient targets for scrutiny, often unfairly. When I received a DUI, I learned from the mistake and vowed never to do it again. I came out a better person as a result.

I'm sure he will learn from this mistake and become a better man. My family's thoughts and prayers go out to him and all of those impacted by this unfortunate situation."

I hope the people who talk about Marbury like he's "crazy" just for cheap jokes, or to fill their quota of Knick-hate columns - the same that don't discuss an actual athlete suffering from mental problems, like Eddie Griffin or someone else, in any context other than "he's troubled" - will someday learn to take the time to understand what someone is trying to say, instead of trying to further their career (which will never hold any meaning or social value, unfortunately for them - it'll always be nothing more than a paycheck) on the backs of another "ignorant" athlete.

I'm surprised no one has gone to Gary Sheffield for a quote yet.  The Detroit press ain't doing their job....

Everybody has already written off this comment as being some fake ish from a flack. It won't get any play, unfortunately. Too bad he didn't say this the first time around.

You know what I don't get? Why is Marbury accused of "defending Vick and dog fighting" (the actually headline on the Daily News website) instead of being accused of "bashing hunting", which is essentially another way of saying what he was doing...

Oh, yeah. Because making Marbury look like an asshole, or crazy, gets some reporter's d*ck hard.

Ron Wolf's comments are more supportive of Vick's than just about everyone else's! Yet he receives no criticism. I just have to laugh:)

Marbury pretty much had the most thoughtful reaction to the Michael Vick thing that I've heard. Newspaper sports reporters are such jerks. Aren't these the same guys who gave Marbury a hard time for not being more open with the media for the past four years? Then as soon as he opens up, they instinctively bash him.

SML, good point on the "defending Vick" headline. That is a very common media saying. It is like you can only be in the "defending" camp or the "hating" camp. It is like there can never be intelligent discussion on any topic. It is annoying as hell.
