A little off topic, and probably not sports related, but still very entertaining and worth your time. It started when DJM and I were discussing Crispin Glover's (yes, George McFly from Back To The Future) famous 1987 appearance on David Letterman. It's been around for 20 years, and gets mentioned every year or so, since it remains one of the craziest guest appearances on a talk show ever. The clip is below:
Basically David Letterman gets pissed off with Glover's antics and walks off the stage while security tosses Glover. Was Glover on some sh*t? Who knows, he's an actor. Anyway, we had both seen this clip many times before.
This conversation though lead me to look up Crispin Hellion Glover's (yes, that's his actual full name) other appearance three years later on Late Night With David Letterman, circa 1990. The clip below (sound is off, so you have to turn it up a bit) is almost as fun. While a cleaned-up Crispin Glover is relatively normal - "relatively" being the key word - he's actually still nutty as hell, rambling about someone else who looks like him, because that's still the story he sells about his first appearance on Letterman - Dave himself is on fire. He rips through the interview, taking some really hysterical shots at Glover and his work, outright mocking him from the get-go (Paul plays "Kung-Fu Fighting" as Glover's intro). It's absolutely worth the 7 minutes of watching. Especially for Glover's "music" video, by the way... holy sh*t is that nightmare fuel. Good lord. Here's the clip:
Whereas the first interview was great for Crispin Glover's lines, the second is all about David Letterman's deadpan. "So you've sold some records then" is my favorite, though "You know, I thought that was going to be kind of stupid, but it's not... from the name of the song I thought it was going to be goofy, but it's something thoughtful" is also tremendous.
Finally, totally unrelated to Crispin Glover or Letterman, but just as fun... another DJM/SML conversation lead to this discovery... DJM sent me this link to the great episode of This American Life, about building supers in New York City. To hear the show, click on the "Full Episode" icon on the left. There's a 3 minute into, then comes the great part - Act One. We'll warn you now, it's 21 minutes long, but it completely engrossing. It's a true story about a super in a Upper West Side building during the 80's, and the tenants that knew nothing of what was going on. It's absolutely worth the time to listen to it.
If you want to follow up on the story, here's Allan Stern's website.

Crispin Glover is absolutely crazy. He isn't just insane, though, when he rambles about the movie in the beginning of the clip--he only played George McFly in the first movie In the second and third, it was a different actor, a guy named Jeffrey Weissman. I always find that to be the weirdest bit of Hollywood trivia.
Also, in the video Glover is wearing the same suit and tie as he's wearing on the show. Could the video be something the Letterman people helped him do, or does he only own one suit?
