F*ck me if I go too fast, but... 2 years, at $2 million per?!? That's it? What is wrong with the GMs in the NBA... how is one of the few true point guards in the league not getting better offers than playing for the team that is almost guaranteed to finish in the lottery next season (sorry, but Elton Brand is out for a while with that Achille's Heel injury) for chump change?
Here's a list of teams that should have signed Knight to what is not even a mid-level exemption:
The Cavs. Especially the Cavs.
The Lakers, to hold the spot until Farmer and J-Crit are ready to go. Although they aren't in need of a traditional point.
The Celtics. I'm leaning more and more towards "overrated" when it comes to the Celtics right now. Eddie House is your fifth best player.
And every other team in the league, even Phoenix and the Nets, because Knight is a decent backup even if he's not a starter.
Speaking of the the Celtics reluctance to do anything useful with their bench... our favorite NYC "official" newspaper Knick blogger, Alan Hahn, takes a semi-serious look at the Celtic's bench. After getting rebuffed by Dikembe Mutumbo, the Celtics are this close to signing Scott Pollard as their backup big man. Money quote:
But if that's your safety net for Kendrick Perkins, I'd hate to see what the plan is for backing up Rajon Rondo.
True dat. Bonus: Alan Hahn responds to an e-mail from "Ali G" in hysterical fashion. Worth peeping.
Okay, some random non-sports items from The Economist (July 28th issue), which I'm only halfway through... I thought these might be interesting, so I'll just add them to this basketball post:
-China has a problem with "corpse brides". When a man dies a bachelor in traditional parts of China, their family might give in to a strange custom known as "ghost marriages". Basically, the family will get the body of a woman, hold a quickie wedding for the deceased "couple", and bury them together. It obviously requires getting dead bodies (preferably fresh) of woman, and the demand for them has gone up. I don't know how widespread a problem it is, but there is a reference to the gangster who allegedly killed six women just to get their corpses.
This, it should be noted in a nerdy way, is in no way related to the practice of "ghost marriages" in the Sudan, which refers to a brother taking his dead siblings' place in a marriage.
-And there's an article in there about the city of Toronto, and it's money problems... it's going broke. Once again, if the city goes bankrupt, my people here at the network can probably take in Skeets & Tas from The Basketball Jones (we'll put them in Becky's blog) and our favorite Blue Jays' blog, Big Smoke Sports.
Random You Tube Video:
I hate to waste this great video on a regular post; I'm sure I'm going to use this again in a non-random context, but it is such a good video why not roll with it now?...

Obviously I loved that comment so much I posted it twice.. My bad.
Okay, I may have gotten a little carried away. Still, the Suns could use Brevin and Barbosa (at SG) off the bench. But yes, not every team needs him.
But damnit Brevin Knight deserves better than pennies from the Clippers! What is wrong with the NBA?
Listen, the point is that the Celts, Cavs, and Lakers ALL could have had Brevin Knight for peanuts and messed up bigtime. there is no excuse. NONE!
PS: can't post "Self-destuction" enough...
I agree with MODI
sometimes you have GMs paying players for LESS then what they deserve
it's nice to see that for all the Adonal Foyles, the Mike Dunleavys, the Sam Dalemberts, the Jerome Jameses etc etc there is also a Brevin Knight
very nigh signing. it's a pity that Brand went down because Clippers could have made another run to the post-season (possibly leavig the Lakers out...)

I'll agree with you that Brevin Knight is a solid pickup for a lot of teams, but come on; he's not an upgrade everywhere.
Phoenix - Nash, Barbosa, Bell in the backcourt. No room for Brevin. Plus he can't shoot so he wouldn't fit.
Chicago - Hinrich, Gordon, Duhon (who I hate), and Sefolosha are better than Knight. Well, maybe not Duhon. Those two are pretty interchangable.
New Jersey - Kidd and Marcus Williams have the point spot covered. Just because you have a chance at an adequate back-up point doesn't mean you stunt the growth of a 1st rounder. This kind of also applies to the Lakers, but I agree those two youths could use some tutoring.
He really should have gone to the Cavs, but their backcourt is pretty crowded too. For some reason Ferry still has faith in Larry Hughes.
