Interesting story recounted by The Marathon Man yesterday... it started when we talked about celebrity sightings (which occur quite a bit around the Columbus Circle area, as Time Warner's headquarters is right there.

Anyway, so as The Marathon Man was heading to Central Park for a 12-mile run, Christopher Hitchens barrels into him, and almost knocks him over.  He didn't apologize.  That shouldn't surprise anyone.

So I made requestive "Noam Chomsky would have apologized for his aggression" joke, and The Marathon Man told us about the time he met Chomsky while in school back in June 2001.  The students ended up eating lunch with Chomsky (he loved the fishsticks), and got to ask him tons of questions.

So the topic of basketball came up, and Chomsky admitted that he's a big Kobe Bryant and Allen Iverson fan (remember, that was your Finals matchup that season); in fact, he really liked both players.  A student asked him if he was being hypocritical in his beliefs because he was paying for his cable, to monopolistic cable companies.  He answered that we all make allowances, and that, basically, he was a really big Celtics fan and like to watch their games.

Anyone else find this fascinating?
