SML has decided that it will cover the Blue Jays extensively this baseball season, in effect becoming the (hopefully) foremost Blue Jays blog there is. We have little competition, sadly. There are 9 other blogs that are focused on the Blue Jays, according to Strike Two.
Why the Blue Jays? Well, the Blogs By Fans network has most of the major teams covered already: Depressed Fan covers the Yankees, Loge 13 covers the Mets, our west coast honey Erin covers the Dodgers, and we got The Fighting Phils Fans (the dynamic duo). We also have a Red Sox blogger joining the network soon, and possibly a Cubs blogger, too.
Given that, I wanted to cover a team that was not extensively written about. The two choices were the Braves (our sleeper NL East team that is off to a quick start). In the Braves favor: they will compete this year. I wish I could revise my preseason predictions; I would flip the Braves and the Phillies, mainly because I had no idea how terrible the Phillies bullpen is. That sh*t is atrocious. The Braves are also nationally televised, so we could watch a lot of their games on TV without having to spring any money. But it's hard to support a team who's home city barely supports it. Given that, we chose the Blue Jays.
The Blue Jays are our sleeper pick to win the AL East. We think this is the year they can make some noise, and when they do we will be here to say "I told ya so". Our website features very sporadic contributions from Canadian DJM (note: Not actually a Canadian) and the Marathon Man (who went to school in Canada). And SML's little brother's brother-in-law's brother lives in Toronto. So you see, we're practically Canuck!
And to that end, we are also extending an open invitation to ya'll out there: If you want to contribute a piece or two on baseball for the website, drop me an e-mail. I'm not sure what the Knicks crew from Posting & Toasting (#16 and slipping!) does in the offseason, but Seth, Barnesgasm, DocK16, Anthony Mason's Haircut, et al - you are all welcomed to chime in with your baseball thoughts or the such. Even our buddy Jacob Sugarman, the man who equates us with Fox News - holla at me if you want to contribute to the baseball coverage.
