J. Tavares (0-1, 6.75) vs. R. Halladay (2-0, 2.37)
  Whoa, look out!

Roy Halladay is on the hill tonight against the Red Sox, hoping to finish the two-game sweep for the Blue Jays, and get them back to .500.  The Jays won yesterday 7-3, powered by The Big Hurt's 490th homer.  Aaron Hill's hot April hitting continued, as he had four hits, including a homer of his own (his 4th of the season).  Tomo Ohko just outpitched Tim Wakefield, and the Jays bullpen shut the Sox out while Aaron Hill provided some runs off the Sox's Mike Timlin.

Halladay vs. The Red Sox:  The Sox hitting has cooled off a bit since their sweep of the Yankees.  Wily Mo Pena had struck out 5 at-bats in a row at one point in yesterday's game.  Julio Lugo is 2 for his last 23.  These guys are not looking forward to Halladay's filthy stuff.

Keys for the game for the Jays:  Hit Julian Tavares.  He's got a 6.75 ERA!  He walks as many hitters as he strikes out.  He's very beatable, and the Jays are sending their ace to the mound.  This is a should-win for the Jays.

Jays News

  • First the bad - BJ Ryan got moved to the 60-day DL, meaning he's out until mid-June at the earliest.  Jason Frasor has done a solid job so far, but this puts a strain on the rest of the bullpen, which was doing great at the time of Ryan's injury.
  • Frank Thomas' 490th home run of his career last night was a moonshot that travelled an estimated 490 feet (above the left field seats at Fenway).  How appropriate.
  • Vernon Wells attempt to steal third off of Wakefield/Mirabelli yesterday in the first led to the first score of the game, when the throw sailed wide of the bag.  "We talked about being more aggressive", said Wells after the game.  It would be good to see him using his legs as well as his power to create runs.
  • John McDonald's defense at third was spectacular yesterday.  Except for the sharp liner from Pena that bounced off his glove in the 6th and into left field.  The Jays defense in general continues to mix big plays with stupid mistakes - witness Aaron Hill's bad decision to throw to first instead of forcing David Ortiz at second on a grounder; Royce Clayton's throwing error; and the aforementioned Pena liner.

Julian Tavarez makes Rudy Seanez look like Bob Gibson.

And I hate Rudy Seanez.
