Toronto won the rubber match of their series against Kansas City yesterday, beating the Royal 7-4.
Manager John Gibbons once again shuffled his lineup (he's still working on it, give him time!), moving Alex Rios back to the 6th spot after having him leadoff the night before. Reed Johnson moved into the leadoff spot, and did a decent job. He hit a double in the 5th and scored on Vernon Wells' single to up the Blue Jays lead to 4-2.
Lyle Overbay continues to hit second, despite a .222 average after yesterday's 1-5. The fans are already calling for a move down in the lineup for him, so it'll be interesting to see if Gibbons' next lineup shuffle involves Overbay. Troy Glaus had a big game in the 5th slot, going 2-2 with two walks and three runs scored. The hitters knocking him in? Alex Rios (in that sixth slot) and Aaron Hill, who went 3-4 with three ribbies.
Chacin pitched okay, giving up 3 runs in 5 innings. He only threw 79 pitches, and despite only walking one batter, he throw 32 of them for balls. Still, it was good enough to beat the Royals.
Casey Janssen allowed an RBI single to Estaban German in the 7th to bring the Royals within a run, 5-4. It was the first run allowed by the Jays' bullpen in 14 innings. But Aaron Hill's double in the bottom of the 7th scored Overbay and Glaus, giving the Jays some breathing room.
BJ Ryan needed only 9 pitches (8 of them strikes) to get through the 9th to pick up his third save of the season. With the exception of that horrible blown save against the Devils Rays on April 6th, in which Ryan gave up three runs on 5 hits, capped by Delmon Young's game-winning blast, Ryan has been lights-out, allowing only one hit in three innings in his three successful save opportunities.
This was the fourth win in five games for the Jays, who picked up a game on the Yankees and Red Sox, both losers yesterday.
