From what I saw (at a bar, which had the effing Florida game on 10 TVs and the Knicks on a tiny tv in the corner), it looked like this: the first half the Knicks dominated the boards, pushed and ran alot (lots of points in the paint), and the Hornets couldn't score. The second half the Knicks defense looked awful, the Hornets scored, and the Knicks couldn't rebounded (I counted it as 26-11 in the second half in favor of the Hornets), they weren't pushing the ball or running. Or getting it to Curry. After holding the Hornets to 64 points through three quarters they were outscored 28-19 in the fourth.
So why were they so tired in the 2nd half? All the Knicks starters (except for Jeffries) played at least 37 minutes - Curry 42, Frye 41, Francis 40, and Marbury 37. Considering 2 of those guys are injured, and one is notoriously out of shape (Curry, duh), those are alot of minutes. Considering the four subs (Balkman, Collins, Rose, and Robinson) were 9-13, and had some good numbers, it doesn't make sense. Balkman = 6 pts, 5 rebounds, Robinson was scoring, Rose was 2-2 with 2 steals, and, as Seth from postingandtoasting pointed out, he forced two traveling violations with that dirty play of his, shouldn't Isiah have given his starters more rest? Without Lee, Crawford, or Richardson, the Knicks are low on players. So Isiah has two choices - either play the stars more, and let them determine the outcome of the game, or utilize his full rotation (minus Jerome James, of course), and hope they can pull it off as a team.
Two games ago we wrote that we had no interest in seeing Robinson or Rose. We'll stick by that, even when they are productive. But Balkman and Collins are important, and deserve more than 18 combined minutes. Listen, we've said this before - Balkman is just a dreadlocked David Lee. If Lee is worthy of 30+ minutes when healthy, why not play Balkman as much, or at least 20ish minutes? And Collins is more a better backup guard than Robinson. Robinson chucked up 7 shots, including 4 three-pointers, in 15 minutes. Collins is a better point guard. Give those guys a little more burn, rest the starters a bit more, and maybe they won't be so tired in the second half.
