Beat The Skeets is a daily feature in which SML tries to surpass the record set by the best basketball handicappers in the world, J.E. Skeets and Tas Melas of www.thebasketballjones.net.

TBJ Current Record:  They won yesterday with the Pistons stomping the Lakers.  TBJ's record is now 58-41 (58.6%).

SML Current Record: We suck.  We lost with the Bulls at the Kings yesterday. Current record: 14-22 (38.9%).

Today's picks: We haven't given up.  We totally kicked ass during the football season, and most of the basketball season until we started posting on this website!  No really.  Listen, I know you don't believe me, but watch... you'll see.  We're gonna Beat The Skeets.  Because we got game.

Today we went with Den [+7.5] at Indiana.  Hey, Indiana is not better than Denver.  Denver will lose, because they lose close games (3-11 in games decided by 5 or less pts), but they should keep it close enough to cover.  The second game is the Lakers [+3.5], flying to Toronto to take on the Raptors.  Listen, I know the Raptors are on fire.  They are one of the top teams in the East, and may surprise some by making it to the second round this year; that's all good.  But we all know how much Kobe likes playing against Toronto (81 point game, anyone?), so Lakers it is.

Some of you might be tempted by these lines: LAC [-1] @ Philly.  We've learned our lesson about betting against Philly this week.  Avoid.

Also, this might interest you: NJN [-4.5] @ Boston.  What, the Nets are only giving 4.5 points to the hapless Celtics?  The same team that hasn't won in like a month?  Don't fall for it, it's a trap.  The Celtics are going to play the Nets tough, because they have good matchups against the Nets.  Avoid!
